Depression
Depression is often misunderstood. We think of it as a dark, heavy, weight, or a pit we fall into and struggle to climb out of. But what if depression is actually a compression? An internal pressure that arises when we're searching for answers in places they can't be found? When the external world fails to offer solutions, we're pushed inward, back to ourselves, back to the core of who we are.
This isn't inherently negative, yet we are conditioned to see it that way. We call it depression instead of a deep rest, but really, it's an invitation to redefine.
Think about it. If you define the idea of turning inward as something bad (retreating or isolation) you're going to have a negative experience. It's the definition, not the process, that creates the pain. Depression becomes the dark tunnel because we paint it to be that way. What happens if we change the definition?
Imagine you're getting laid off by your job. The immediate reaction might be to panic or become fearful. "This is the worst thing that could happen." Pause. Ask yourself "How can I see this differently? What if this is actually an opportunity for me to step into something more aligned with my soul's path?"
Consider a break-up. It hurts, of course, but what if instead of defining it as a failure, you saw it as a course correction or a redirection toward something even more loving and expansive? What if you believed the universe was guiding you and not punishing you?
Definitions shape reality. If we label a situation as negative, we automatically limit ourselves. We block inspiration and close the door to new possibilities. If we shift our perspective, neutralize the negative, and give the situation a positive meaning, suddenly the energy changes. We are open to solutions, insights, and dare I say miracles?
It's not easy. When things feel heavy and the walls are closing in, it's hard to think of a positive spin. Try asking yourself "What can I assign to this that is positive?" Even the smallest reframe can crack open the door.
"I'm stuck" turns into "I'm being prepared for something new."
"Everything is falling apart" becomes "Everything is being rearranged for my highest good."
"I can't handle this" transforms into "This is stretching me in ways I didn't know I needed."
You can not perceive what you are not the vibration of. If you're vibrating in negativity, you can't access inspiration. It's like tuning into a radio station. You won't hear the music playing on 99.7 if you're stuck on 87.3. That is why it's so important to shift your energy first. Get into a positive state of being: gratitude, breathwork, movement, or simply choosing a new thought.
Catch yourself in the act of labeling. When things feel dark, examine, and assign something positive. It's not always a brick wall. It's a doorway you didn't see before. A sudden change of direction. A cosmic nudge guiding you back to alignment.
Depression isn't the end of the road. It's the pause before the turn. It's the movement where you stop looking outward for answers and realize they were within you all along. When you shift your definitions, you shift your experience.
The next time life compresses you, don't resist. Turn inward, redefine, and let the shift unfold.
